Polygon Announces Web3 Accelerator Program
A couple of days ago, Polygon unveiled their new plan to launch what they are calling a ‘base camp accelerator program’. In a nutshell, this program will aim to help educate teams from the web2 world and teach them how to build a project on web3 instead. The program not only educates the teams on how to build within the web3 ecosystem, but it will also teach them how to deploy their project onto the Polygon PoS chain, which in turn, will give them access to Ethereum technology in a much faster and cost-efficient way. To bring this program into fruition, Polygon have enlisted the help of ‘Outlier Ventures’ in order to assist with the efforts.
This whole program makes me incredibly happy, and also even more excited and optimistic about the future. It basically shows us that there is indeed a high demand for teams from the traditional world wanting to get in on the web3 action while we are still in the early adopter phase. I also want to quickly cover another major point from this exciting news, which is the fact that we are seeing Ethereum scaling solutions like Polygon now start to help teams who are building projects to just deploy straight onto the Polygon network and basically bypass Ethereum Mainnet altogether. This is excellent, and it is going to make life much easier going forward. With the Layer 2 rollout heating up this year, I dare say that we will see brand new projects popping up that will just end up deploying onto a Layer 2 scaling solution, essentially bypassing Layer 1 altogether.
The program is currently still under construction and is now taking applications from teams wishing to transition into the world of web3. The program itself is set to start in early 2022, there is not a hard date yet, however I suspect one will be revealed closer to the end of this year. The program will run relatively tight with a total of eight teams being selected for the initial program. The course will run for a five-month period, and the teams involved will be able to work remotely, meaning that they will be able to participate in the program from anywhere in the world. The teams involved will also gain access to some of Outlier Ventures amazing features, such as their global network of mentors and industry leading founders.
All in all, I think that this program is sorely needed, and it is something that I think will become much more popular as time goes on. Over the next few years, I think we will see an increasingly higher number of institutions as well as small teams looking to expand on their business and capitalise on the early stage of the web3 world. And why wouldn’t they? I think at this point in time it would be crazy for teams and institutions to not start thinking of ways on how to get involved in such a huge technological advancement. It’s essentially the same thing as what happened in the early days of the internet. Those who embraced the new technology and helped pioneer the industry were rewarded very handsomely for their conviction. Those who chose not to back the new tech basically missed out on generational wealth and had to adapt further down the line anyway.
